Project Overview:
I was hired to collaborate with Dualsun to lead the redesign of MyDualsun - their connected mobile application.
Working closely with the in-house Product Designer, I integrated a cross-functional team - design, dev, product, and QA - working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
The mission focused on enhancing the overall user experience, rethinking the installation journey, and improving the visualization of real-time and historical energy data to make complex technical information clearer, more accessible, and easier to understand.

The Challenge:
The solar energy industry is highly technical - before designing anything, I had to fully understand production logic, consumption metrics, and how data variables interact over time. This required stepping into a specialized domain and quickly developing enough expertise to make informed design decisions.
On top of that, the existing interface lacked structure and visual hierarchy: screens felt dense, hard to read, and overwhelming for users. Data was displayed without clear prioritization, reducing both readability and engagement. The challenge was therefore both conceptual and visual: making sense of complex information and translating it into a clear, structured, and intuitive mobile experience.

The Research & Discovery
I started with a thorough audit of the existing product, analyzing usability issues, data structure, and the specific needs of solar energy users.
I mapped and redefined the key user flows, focusing on two critical areas: the roof installation journey - including the connection to an external API - and the way real-time and historical energy data was organized and displayed.
This discovery phase helped identify the main friction points and set a clear direction for the redesign.

The Design Process
I kicked off the design phase with low-fidelity wireframes to restructure key flows and explore new ways of organizing the information architecture. Once the structure was validated with the team, I moved to high-fidelity mockups in Figma, refining visual balance, readability, and data hierarchy at each iteration.
A major focus was transforming complex energy metrics - production, consumption, historical comparisons - into clear and digestible interfaces that surface the most relevant insights without overwhelming the user. To support user understanding of the system, I also designed a dedicated explanatory diagram to visually clarify the product logic and energy flow.
Throughout the process, I extended and refined the existing design system to ensure stronger visual consistency across the application and guarantee long-term scalability. Each sprint included close collaboration with developers and product owners to align design decisions with technical constraints and product goals, iterating continuously based on feedback.

The Result
The redesigned MyDualsun app delivers a clearer, more structured, and more intuitive mobile experience. One of the key decisions was merging real-time and historical data into a single unified screen called "Statistics", giving users a seamless and comprehensive view of their energy performance in one place.
To help users make sense of the system, I designed a dedicated explanatory diagram that visually breaks down how production, consumption, and energy flow work together - making technical concepts immediately clear and accessible.
The Statistics screen also introduces a customizable period selector with a calendar, allowing users to explore their data across any timeframe they choose. Where relevant, forecast data was integrated directly into the graphs, helping users anticipate their energy production and plan ahead more effectively.
The installation flow is smoother and more guided, reducing friction during onboarding. The refined design system ensures visual consistency across the app and supports future scalability. Overall, the redesign makes solar energy monitoring more accessible - fully aligned with Dualsun's innovative positioning in the renewable energy sector.
